The Elephant Parade is an open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues. Famous and upcoming artists contribute to the conservation of Asian elephants and the public awareness of their life threatening situation. In the past 100 years Asian elephant populations have plummeted from 250,000 to 25,000. Hand painted miniatures are available in shops and online.

Corneille, painter of 3 elephants, has died.

Today (September 5, 2010) we learned that the legendary Dutch painter Corneille has died, aged 88. Mike Spits, founder of the Elephant Parade: "It's a very sad day because Corneille has passed away. We owe him very much, being the first internationally renowned artist supporting the Elephant Parade." Corneille's spokesman, Boudewijn Hiltermann, said the three art elephants Corneille created for the Elephant Parade exhibitions were the last works of art the legendary painter has completed.

The last work of art Corneille completed will be auctioned off this Thursday in Emmen.
