Siegfried

by Andre Tempel

"Siegfried, a warrior prince in the epic Germanic myth ‘The Song of the Nibelungs’, became invincible when bathing in dragon blood. During the ceremony a leaf from a linden tree fell onto his bare back leaving the only vulnerable spot on his body. It was this spot that he was later deceitfully attacked upon and brought about his death. On the elephant’s back we find such a spot. Referencing to Siegfried, the spot symbolizes vulnerability despite strong and seemingly invincible stature. This reference extends further to the lower extremities which are uncovered."
