Michael-Birch Pierce’s elephant design was inspired by his experience as a young American artist working at SCAD Hong Kong in the Sham Shui Po district and comments on traditions of elephant adornment. Pierce’s elephant is named Navratna, a Sanskrit word meaning “nine gems”.
